A tunnel under the IJ directly behind Central Station turns out to be three times cheaper than the Oostbrug, the crossing the City of Amsterdam has been pursuing for years. If this so-called IJ Klopper were built, the central ferry connection could be shut down immediately – saving an additional 15 million euros a year.
